Pushpendra Sharma – Volleyball(9044946006)
Being the son of an Army man Pushpendra Sharma had an exposure to sports at an early age while staying and practicing in many states due to frequent postings. He played many sports like tennis, football and basketball but grew to favour volleyball the most and went on to become one of the best volleyball coaches our city has today. He has been training the National Teams of Navodaya Vidyalaya for years now. This college is renowned for repeatedly winning gold and silver medals in the sport annually. Also he is a professional coach for Volleyball in the SDS Training Centre,Lucknow
Having served as a representative of Sports Authority of India since 2006-2011 Coach Pushpendra also honed his skills as a qualified lawn tennis, football and volleyball coach. Apart from sport he has trained people in fitness at Utopia Royale Gym, Lucknow.
Coach Pushpendra says,” Learning is a lifelong process and in order to achieve it a person must overcome his ego.” He adds,” For a good sportsperson, discipline is of utmost importance.”
He is glad that sport has come a long way and that parents and the government have done a great deal to encourage young children to pursue sports as a career. According to Coach Pushpendra, trainers should keep a strict watch on their trainees and make the training engaging enough to keep the interest of the students active.
Sadhna Singh – Volleyball (9450434484)
Born and raised in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Sadhna Singh took to athletics at an early age in school and began her training in multiple sports in class 8. She was soon selected for national level volleyball. She was trained by Pratap Narayan Dubey and practiced in his club for 2 years. At the time Sultanpur was well known for producing national level players. Later in 1985, Sadhna played at national level from Delhi School and also in Mizoram .
Sadhna began her career as a coach in the year 2000 at Gorakhpur Sports College and coached students there till 2006. From 2006-13 she excelled as a volleyball coach in Faizabad Boys Hostel. Post that tenure she was called to share her skilful coaching with trainees at K.D.Singh Stadium in Lucknow from 2006-2018. She is also a member of the Volleyball Federation of India and has been a member of Volleyball Selection Committee for 6 years
Reiterating what most of our expert coaches suggest she says, ” Value of correct diet, balanced routine, time management and goal should be ingrained in a sportsperson’s mind to generate long lasting focus.” Coach Sadhna adds, ” To be a good sportsperson, one should be a good human too. People from higher income segment families should also come forward and participate in sports.” She trains her students strictly specially in discipline and hard work on the practice ground.
Some winning players coached by Sadhna are Poonam Chaudhary (junior Indian volleyball team), Neelam Tomar (Youth Indian Team), Abhay Singh (school India), Ankit Yadav (school India) and Happy Bhati (he was selected under 19 for School India team)
